INTERCITY EXPRESS PROGRAMME (IEP)

Our Ref: HC/14/2

11th October 2017

Dear Colleague,

INTERCITY EXPRESS PROGRAMME (IEP)

I write further to my previous correspondence and further to information I have received from our representatives, regarding the introduction of the new IET Trains. As you are aware, Great Western Railway is planning to implement these new trains into service on Monday 16th October 2017.

The proposals outlined the company’s intention to operate the new IET trains in 10-car multiple formations on a temporary basis until an agreement has been reached on the unresolved issue of the catering restructuring negotiations. As you are aware, this matter has been a long running issue and is still being discussed at our On-Trains Divisional Council.

A temporary agreement and operation method has been reached by our On-Trains Divisional Council. The interim method will start as a trial on Monday 16th October 2017 and will remain in place until a full and final proposal has been considered by your union as part of the catering restructuring package. The trial method will involve a Ticket Examiner (TE) grade in the front portion of the IET train in a 10-car multiple formation, who will carry out revenue, customer service and non-operational safety checks.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and acknowledges the report received from our representatives. The NEC has asked our Lead Officer to continue investigating this matter and to provide an updated report on these issues. Furthermore, the NEC is asking you and your colleagues to remain vigilant on these issues and to report any concerns or issues to your second stage representatives.

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments on this issue when they arise.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
