I write in relation to the above matter and further to my previous correspondence dated 5th January 2018. As you are aware, the company’s original proposals were rejected and that urgent meetings were taking place with GWR to discuss our objections and to try and reach an acceptable arrangement.

At a recent On-Trains Divisional Council (OTDC) meeting, GWR proposed a revised document in relation to a temporary arrangement for ‘Front-Set Lead’ working. The company advised that its current practice of deploying Ticket Examiners to work on board the front portion of the 10-car IET trains is unsustainable and has proposed a more robust temporary solution. This proposal can be summarised as:-

• Customer Hosts on a temporary basis would be required to fulfil the ‘front-set Lead Role’
• Customer Hosts who express an interest in the role would be required to have a series of competencies as stated.
• Remuneration for the role would be the payment of time + ¼ for the entire day when the Customer Hosts work in this role.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has noted that the proposal from the company has been endorsed by Our On-Trains Divisional Council. Therefore, I have been instructed to inform the company that we accept the temporary proposals.
