INTRODUCTION OF MOBILE DEVICES, CLEANERS - ABM

Our Ref LUL/27/2

27th April 2020

TO ALL ABM MEMBERS

Dear Colleagues

INTRODUCTION OF MOBILE DEVICES, CLEANERS - ABM

It has been brought to our attention that ABM has imposed the use of mobile devices on you and your colleagues. We understand that the instruction from your managers is that these devices, which they insist you will be liable for, are to be used for booking on/off shifts and holiday requests.

We are seriously concerned that the imposition of these devices could be seen to be a unilateral change to your contract which has not been consulted with your union. In addition we fear that they may be used to track your movements in a way that may breach your privacy.

Having considered this matter, the union’s National Executive Committee has offered our full support to our cleaning members working on London Underground who are playing such an essential role during the current national Coronavirus crisis. We are also getting legal advice on whether or not management forcing you to use these devices is a breach of your contract and your privacy. Once we have this advice the NEC will consider this issue again and I will be sure to keep members fully informed of developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
