ISSUE OF MOBILE PHONES – RAIL GOURMET (TPE CONTRACT)

Our Ref: HC/27/2

9th August 2024

Dear RMT Member,

ISSUE OF MOBILE PHONES – RAIL GOURMET (TPE CONTRACT)

It has been reported that Rail Gourmet are issuing and imposing company mobile phones to be used by members for day-to-day duties. The issuing of these phones is being carried out without consultation with the relevant RMT representatives, which is a clear breach of our collective agreements.

The company’s actions have come at a time when discussions are ongoing for productivity during pay discussions, where a commitment was given by Rail Gourmet stating that they would work with the union to jointly discuss a way to work towards £15 per hour, with the introduction of productivity being explored.

The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and have instructed me to write to Rail Gourmet to demand that the issuing of mobile phone equipment ceases with immediate effect. I have asked the company to incorporate this issue into the 2024 pay discussions and failing to do so will lead to a dispute situation.

Rail Gourmet’s issuing of these mobile phones have been done without any agreement from the Union. This is completely unacceptable, and I will be advising the company that any agreement on the issuing of mobile phones will be dependent on the conclusion of the 2024 pay discussions.

Your Union will continue to monitor this situation and I will keep members advised of any further developments.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
