LONE WORKING ON 222 UNITS, TRAIN MANAGERS – EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY

Dear colleague

LONE WORKING ON 222 UNITS, TRAIN MANAGERS – EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY

Your union has entered a dispute with East Midlands Railways over the company running its 222 Units in multiple formation with only one Train Manager. This has been done without agreement from your union and without abiding by the normal Collective Bargaining Arrangements.

It has been brought to our attention that EMR is citing an “agreement” that somehow allows other grades to carry out the duties of and replace the Train Managers on such units when a trade dispute situation has been declared.

I can categorically advise you that no such agreement exists and I have advised EMR management of this fact. I have also advised EMR that it should cease the practice of running the 222 Units with only one Train Manager when the train is in multiple formation and that it should instead honour our agreements such as the Collective Bargaining arrangements.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
