Dear RMT Member

MANAGERS WORKING AS GUARDS - CROSS COUNTRY TRAINS

Further to my previous correspondence with regards to the above matter, I now write to inform you that I have received an update report from the Lead Officer on the current Trade Dispute and ongoing ballot for industrial action.

The Lead Officer reports that an Avoidance of Disputes meeting has been arranged and will take place on Friday 6th September 2024 regarding multiple issues. Additionally, the Lead Officer has informally discussed a solution to our current Trade dispute and had tentatively agreed to discuss this at the forthcoming meeting.

You may also recall in the communication issued by Cross Country Interim MD dated the 21stAugust 2024, that the company state they are committed to finding a solution to this issue and that they do not want to utilise contingency managers.

Unfortunately, I must report that Cross Country has stated they have no mandate to resolve this dispute and therefore no meaningful discussions can be discussed on Friday. Furthermore, I am now receiving reports that Cross Country are refusing our members to work Rest Days and instead paying managers to undertake the role of the Guard at inflated rates of pay which can amount to more than £600 per shift.

It is very clear that Cross Country has no intentions of resolving our Trade Dispute. Therefore, it is imperative that our members secure a mandate for industrial action to get management to take our concerns seriously. It is entirely unacceptable that management who have created this situation are now profiting as a result.
