MEMBERS TO WORK NORMALLY AS BEFORE THE ADVICE FROM UNION DATED 26TH JUNE 2020

Dear Colleague,

GUARDS DUTIES, CHECKS ON EMPTY COACHING STOCK (ECS) AND DOO TRAINS - SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

I am writing further to my letter dated 26th June 2020 and where I informed you that I had received a report from the Lead Officer indicating that SWR are attempting to force extra duties on you and your colleagues without any formal agreement with the RMT.

As you are aware, due to the reluctance of the Company to address these issues through the agreed process the union reiterated the agreed working practices for the classification of dispatch as stated within GRA 8.2.1. This has been an issue for a number of years with our Guards Company Council trying to come to an agreement with the company on this matter.

The Lead Officer has been in discussions with SWR management and the company is now willing to enter into high level talks with the Union over this issue, starting this week, to resolve our concerns.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has taken into account the views of your Lead Officer and Guard representatives. Therefore, the NEC is instructing all Guard members to work as normal and to carry out these checks as before and prior to the union’s advice on the 26th June 2020. The union believes that this will allow for talks to progress to a satisfactory level.

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, update you on any further developments.

Yours sincerely,

RMT Union
