Mental Health Workplace Reps

Our Ref: HSR/1/3
Head Office Circular: NP/301/21
12th August 2021
To: The Secretary
ALL BRANCHES
REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague,

MENTAL HEALTH WORKPLACE REPS
Your Bassetlaw branch has submitted the following resolution:
We at Bassetlaw branch believe that our members would benefit from the introduction and recognition of Mental Health workplace reps. It is widely recognised that mental health affects 1 in 4 people; furthermore we believe we are yet to see the true impact of Covid-19 on our member’s mental health and wellbeing.
We believe our member’s mental health issues are current dealt with by our recognised equality reps which we feel is inadequate given the magnitude of the nationwide recognised mental health crisis.
We request that the NEC submits this for the GS to raise with NWR that they may recognise the creation of Mental Health workplace reps and their subsequent election by RMT members within Network Rail.
At its meeting of 21st January 2021, your National Executive Committee noted and adopted the report as below – which it had received from its Health and Safety Sub-committee, when it met to consider the Bassetlaw resolution.

We note the resolution from Bassetlaw Branch.

The General Secretary is instructed to write to Network Rail with a view to discussing these principles at a future meeting of the Network Rail Business Council.

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction and will keep you advised of developments.

Please bring the contents of this Circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
