Dear Colleague

ROLE OF THE GUARD & INTRODUCTION OF DOO - MERSEYRAIL

Further to my previous correspondence where I informed you that the RMT had proposed a number of potential solutions which we believed would bring a satisfactory conclusion to this ongoing dispute during our discussions with Merseyrail and the Merseyside Mayor. Regrettably, despite your union’s best intentions, the company still refuse to listen to the crucial issue at the heart of this dispute, the future of the safety critical role of the Guard.

Therefore, your union’s National Executive Committee has again considered the matter and believes that the only way to get management back around the negotiating table for meaningful talks to find a sensible solution to this dispute is to call further strike action, as follows:

All Guards, Guard Standard Managers and Train Drivers are instructed not to book on for any turns of duty that commence between:

• 00.01 hours and 23.59 hours on Friday 1st September 2017
• 00.01 hours on Sunday 3rd September 2017 until 23.59 hours on Monday 4th September 2017

The solidarity and determination you have shown throughout this very difficult dispute has been exceptional and I urge you to continue standing shoulder to shoulder on the days of action.

SUPPORT YOUR UNION
SUPPORT THE STRIKE ACTION
Best wishes
