NOISE LEVELS ON THE VICTORIA LINE – LONDON UNDERGROUND

Dear RMT Member,

NOISE LEVELS ON THE VICTORIA LINE – LONDON UNDERGROUND

Following the recent ballot result, you and your colleagues are congratulated for returning an overwhelming yes vote for industrial action. LUL has conducted a noise survey and has advised that the consistent acceleration and braking forces created by auto-running is a key element in the worsening noise levels. The report shows that completion of more than two round trips on the Victoria Line is exposing members to noise levels that breach the regulations and as a result, LUL has instructed all Victoria Line Train Operators to wear ear defenders. This is not accepted as suitable mitigation by RMT as it prevents you from hearing the train radio or being alerted to incidents around you.

The National Executive Committee has therefore taken the decision to instruct all Train Operator and Instructor Operator members at Brixton Traincrew Depot and Seven Sisters Traincrew Depot to take industrial action short of a strike as follows:

  • Driving in protected manual at a speed slow enough to mitigate excessive noise from 00:01 hours on Wednesday 13th November 2024 until further notice

The Company has not taken adequate steps to resolve this matter and I urge you all to support the action to mitigate the creation of excessive noise and to alleviate the distraction, discomfort and anxiety caused in the affected areas.

UNITY IS STRENGTH

SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN TO REDUCE NOISE IN AFFECTED AREAS

I will keep you advised of all further developments.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
