OHL OPERATIVES/TECHNICIANS PAY SCALES – GTRM STAFF – NETWORK RAIL MAINTENANCE
Your union has been involved in long-running discussions with Network Rail over the pay scale and progression of Operatives/Technicians working under GTRM Conditions of Service within the OHL on the London North Western route.
The discussions have been over the integration of GTRM Conditions of Service within Network Rail. Your union’s position has been that there should be no detriment to members as a result of this and an equitable arrangement to accommodate OHL Operatives and their existing terms regarding pay and progression. These discussions have resulted in the current proposal from the company.
The process for the management of new entrants is for their appointment at L1/IM1 rate of pay and following their attainment of the relevant competencies an operative will automatically progress to L2 rate of pay and their job title will change to Technician.
The small number of current OHL Operatives across the region who are currently on the L1 rate of pay and have been in post for longer than 18 months will be individually reviewed by a National Maintenance Council Representative together with the company with a view to their progressing to L2/Technician and an entitlement to backpay payable upon attainment of all five competencies.
Crucially, no member will be worse off under the new proposal and the acquisition of additional competencies for those in the Operative grade will automatically progress them into a Technician grade without the requirement of a vacancy for a Technician arising.
