Dear RMT Member,
OPERATIONAL DUTIES, TRAIN MANAGERS – AVANTI WEST COAST
I have received reports that during recent discussions over the operation of Hitachi Units, Avanti West Coast has failed to consider a proper and robust training plan for train managers regarding the introduction of the Hitachi train units.
The company’s approach to the implementation of these trains has been abysmal, with issues constantly arising due to the company’s poor planning and lack of vision.
The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and acknowledged the company’s failures to provide a clear training plan for train managers. The current proposals from the company are not comprehensive or robust enough and present several safety risks. Therefore, the Union’s NEC has instructed me to advise Avanti West Coast management that we are now in dispute with the company over these issues.
I have asked the company to actively engage with the Train Manager Company Council to resolve these issues and find a way to resolve the dispute constructively. Failure to discuss or resolve the matter with your Union’s representatives will leave the Union with no choice but to escalate the matter to an industrial ballot.
I will continue to keep you advised on this situation and will write following any updates.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
