Dear Colleague,

I am writing in relation to the above matter and following reports I have received from my representatives detailing the frustrating stalling tactics that East Midlands Trains management have been using when discussing a number of problems.

I am deeply disappointed that at a recent avoidance of dispute meeting over contractual issues such as Compulsory Sunday Working, Wage Discrimination and Pink Days, our representatives felt that the company has continued with their negative tactics and have totally failed to satisfactorily address our concerns.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and believes that there is no other option than to enter into dispute with East Midlands Trains and to ballot all of our EMT Senior Conductor members.

Therefore, to ensure a swift ballot, membership checks are currently underway. I urge you all to ensure your membership details are correct in preparation for the ballot. If your job title, address or workplace has recently changed, then please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline number on 0800 376 3706, the RMT switchboard on 0207 387 4771 or e-mail Additionally, if you know a colleague who has moved or changed jobs inform them to contact us on one of the above methods and we will be able to amend their details accordingly.

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments on this issue when they arise.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
