PAY, TERMS AND CONDITIONS, CLEANING GRADES – TRANSPORT FOR WALES

 

The Swansea No. 1 Branch have submitted a resolution expressing concern over the treatment of TfW Group Cleaners. The branch believes the conditions of employment for this group of cleaners are reduced in comparison to members employed by TfW Rail.

 

There even alarming reports that Transport for Wales Cleaners have in various depots been instructed to undertake some of the duties of Train Drivers and Train Guards when no crew are available or present to open door controls, clearing and securing units, assuming responsibility for the security and safety of those on board. The constant use and total exploitation of these lower paid grades has implications on security and satisfaction of travelling passengers

The Union’s National Executive Committee has considered this matter and have noted the sentiments of the resolution from our Swansea No. 1 Branch with great concern. Therefore, I have been instructed me to seek an updated report from the Lead Officer, which I will place back before the NEC for further consideration.
