PETER LEE REINSTATED: DISMISSAL – P LEE – SIGNALLER – NETWORK RAIL

Our Ref BR5/4/1

10th August 2018

TO ALL RMT SIGNALLING MEMBERS IN SUSSEX

Dear Colleagues

PETER LEE REINSTATED

DISMISSAL – P LEE – SIGNALLER – NETWORK RAIL

As many of you will be aware, Brother Peter Lee, a signaller at Arundel was dismissed by Network Rail in January. He had been suspended and was subsequently dismissed following an incident at his signal box relating to meal break cover. Unfortunately this decision was also upheld on appeal.

From the outset there has been incredible support for Peter from both his local area as well the wider signalling community. This support has seen resolutions from Sussex Coastway, Wakefield, Healy Mills, Hull and Stafford Branches all proposing a ballot of members if he is not reinstated. In line with these requests the NEC declared a dispute once the outcome of the appeal was known and we began the preparations to ballot members for industrial action. An urgent Avoidance of Dispute meeting was requested to discuss this case with a view to seeking Peter’s reinstatement to his substantive role.

The Avoidance of Disputes meeting was held on 2nd August 2018 where I personally represented Brother Lee in discussions with the Chief Operating Officer for South East Route. I am extremely pleased to advise you that our representations were successful and Network Rail has agreed to reinstate him to his substantive role.

Without doubt the overwhelming support from branches and signallers across the country has been a major factor in this successful outcome. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have represented and supported Peter throughout this uncertain time.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
