PREPARATION OF COVID RESTRICTION LIFTING
Having consulted with my representatives over RMT’s issues in respect of the WARAs and the 009 standard, I can report that I have today written to Network Rail as below.
RMT’s view is that we do not accept that consultation has been conducted properly and my union objects to the imposition of a new regime from 1st September 2021 without our agreement.
We cannot support the WARA; it has neither been thought through correctly nor is it suitable or sufficient particularly the areas around vehicles.
We do not accept the premise for the points the company has made on road vehicles and extra private hire vehicles.
In the context of diminishing immunity over time, we continue to have concerns in regards to social distancing, even where staff will have been double vaccinated. It would be appropriate to maintain social distancing and measures to prevent unnecessary congregation.
I believe this is more to do with saving money than safety and prevention of spreading the virus.
In summary, RMT does not consider the consultation complete and I have requested that further consultation takes place with my representatives in order for this process to be completed in full and before the company implements changes to the present regime.
