Our Ref: SH/0001/RFA
6th November 2019

Dear Colleagues

Rates of Pay and Conditions 2019 – Royal Fleet Auxiliary

The RMT is aware of and shares the same frustration of our members with regards to the lack of communication from the RFA with regards to the business case submitted to the Cabinet Office. As you are aware the Commodore submitted the business case in September and meetings have taken place between the RFA and the Cabinet Office to discuss the detail of the business case, but we have yet to be made aware of outcomes of these meetings.

Like you, we are exasperated by the deafening silence from the RFA and apparent lack of desire to seek a satisfactory outcome to the pay dispute, your union has continuously been chasing this matter up with the Commodore. Sadly, no positive response has been forthcoming. This may well be a tactic from the RFA in the hope that the ballot is lost and they can continue to ignore our concerns.

It is also important to note that the only voice representing your interests and that has put a huge political and public spotlight on the RFA is the RMT. We will continue to do all that we can, however, should we continue to be met with silence, then we may be forced escalate the dispute.

Your Ship-board Representatives, National Secretary, National Executive Committee and I applaud your solidarity, determination and 100% commitment in the pay dispute so far. It is about time that the Cabinet Office and the RFA takes their heads out of the sand and tables a serious pay offer to resolve this dispute. If the MOD can loosen pay restraint for the Royal Navy, then surely it must look to positively reward RFA personnel, recognising that you continue to do a large percentage of the Royal Navy tasking.

To ensure that we secure a continued mandate in the dispute make sure that you have returned your voting paper by Thursday 14th November 2019 and just as importantly please encourage all of your fellow ship-board colleagues to vote in order to send a loud and clear message to the RFA.

The ballot closes in just 8 days, so there is not much time left to vote. It is imperative that we get a massive return in the ballot for industrial action so we are not prevented from acting on members’ wishes by the new ballot thresholds.

If you have not received your ballot paper please contact the RMT Helpline on 0800 376 3706 or 0207 387 4771 and ask for the Industrial Relations Department or e-mail info@rmt.org.uk as soon as possible.

I urge you not to waste your vote and to vote ‘YES’ FOR STRIKE ACTION AND ‘YES’ FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE to fight for pay justice. Remember to return your paper by no later than first post on Thursday 14th November 2019.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR VOTE – RETURN YOUR VOTING PAPER
VOTE ‘YES’ FOR STRIKE ACTION AND
‘YES’ FOR ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

Yours sincerely
