Rates of Pay & Conditions of Service 2017 – Virgin Trains East Coast

TO ALL RMT MEMBERS AT VIRGIN TRAINS EAST COAST

4th December 2017
Our Ref: BR2/0001/VTEC

Dear Colleagues

BALLOT PAPERS OUT THIS WEEK

Rates of Pay & Conditions of Service 2017 – Virgin Trains East Coast

Further to my letter dated 29th November 2017, I write to you again to update you on the latest developments in the matter of your pay and conditions. As I previously reported, that despite the best efforts of your union, management decided to impose their pay offer. This means that not only have VTEC seriously undermined our collective bargaining agreement but they have inexorably altered your terms and conditions by changing to your sick pay arrangements. The company are treating you with utter contempt and have absolutely no trepidation in riding roughshod over your hard won terms and conditions.

This shameless behaviour has left the RMT with little option but to ballot members our members at VTEC for strike action and industrial action short of a strike. Accordingly, ballot papers will be despatched to your home addresses on Friday 8th December 2017 and the ballot will close on Wednesday 20th December 2017. I have informed the company that the RMT remains available for talks and I hope that management will see sense and take the necessary steps to resolve this dispute.

I cannot stress how important it is that you use your vote in this ballot. Due to the draconian anti-trade union laws, all ballots now require a 50% turnout before action can be called. Therefore, it has never been more vital that you use you vote in the forthcoming ballot.

Irrespective of whether you have opted in, opted out - or done nothing yet – all RMT members are entitled to vote in this ballot. The RMT has not accepted the imposition of pay or the changes to your long standing conditions of service. Nor do we accept this is the final position. Management are attempting to divide the workforce and you should under no circumstances allow them to do this. You are entitled to vote, it’s time to take a stand and show VTEC that you are not prepared to be treated like this.

SUPPORT YOUR UNION
VOTE YES FOR STRIKE ACTION & YES
FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

Yours sincerely
