RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2018 – ROYAL FLEET AUXILIARY
This is an important message for all Royal Fleet Auxiliary members the industrial action that you have been participating since July will cease at 23:59 hours on Saturday 30th November 2019. Therefore, you are instructed to work as normal from 00:01 hours on Sunday 1st December 2019.
This is a bitter pill to swallow, as I know that members have been enthusiastically participating in the industrial action for almost five months. The Commodore himself has written to the RMT on several occasions bemoaning the fact that industrial action was having a serious impact on the Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s operations. However, the RMT is forced to take this action as a direct result of the thresholds set out in the anti-trade union legislation.
The union will soon be convening a meeting to explore all the political and industrial avenues that can be now pursued in the fight for pay justice at the RFA. I would like to thank you all for your continued support that you have shown throughout this dispute. The strength and solidarity you have all shown is phenomenal and you quite rightly deserve to be congratulated not only by the RMT but by the Trade Union movement as a whole.
Whilst this union is committed in our fight to seek a fair pay deal for RFA members, it is always going to be difficult to organise a large scale dispute with the logistical factors at the RFA (i.e. members being away from home for long periods and the disparate nature of the workforce). Therefore, as a union we are committed to making the necessary organisational improvements required, especially at the RFA, to allow us to overcome these hurdles and effectively campaigning for our members.
I trust this keeps you fully advised on the situation and I will, of course, update you on any further developments.
