RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2019 – BLUESTAR
The strike you and your colleagues took part in this week was a great show of strength and a magnificent example to not only the rest of your union but also to the trade union movement in general.
Your action has also had the desired effect of getting management back round the negotiating table as the company has offered more talks on this matter, which will take place on 2nd July 2019. To allow these talks to happen, your National Executive Committee has therefore suspended the industrial action – in terms of the previous instruction not to work overtime or rest days - on both 1st and 2nd July 2019. All other industrial action which I advised you of in my correspondence of 17th June remains on. As a reminder, you are instructed:
Not to work overtime and not to work on a rest day over the 40 contracted hours between
00.01 hours on 3rd July 2019 until 23.59 hours on 7th July 2019
00.01 hours on 22nd July 2019 until 23.59 hours on 28th July 2019
I can also advise you that your NEC has also noted concerns raised by your RMT branch regarding the activities of GMB representatives at the depot during your strike action. For another union not to take part in strike action is one thing. But for representatives of that union to goad you and your colleagues, enticing them to leave the RMT and boasting of overtime being on offer for those who do is quite a despicable act for so-called trade unionists to be involved in. It is commendable and honourable for you and your colleagues to ignore such taunts and stick by proper trade union principles when it comes to industrial action.
I have therefore today written to the GMB protesting at its representatives’ behaviour during this dispute and calling on the union to abide by trade union principles of solidarity when it comes to strike action being taken by another group of workers.
I will of course keep you and your colleagues fully updated with all developments in this dispute, but, in the meantime, please accept my thanks and congratulations for the action you have taken up to now and for your continued commitment to see this dispute to a satisfactory outcome.
