RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2019 – GEMINI RAIL

You will be aware that negotiations for your pay rise this year have been prolonged and fraught. Despite the best efforts of your negotiating team, several derisory and underwhelming pay offers have been tabled by Gemini Rail. However, after the conclusion of the most recent round of talks, the company tabled the following multi-year offer:-

Year One

· No pay increase from 1st April 2019 to 31st December 2019.
· A 2% pay increase from 1st January 2020 to 31st March 2020.

Year Two

· A 0.5% pay increase from 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2021.

Noting that the above offer would represent a two year pay cut in real terms for you and your colleagues, the union’s National Executive Committee has rejected the offer. Accordingly, the National Executive Committee has instructed me to hold a ballot for industrial action of you and your colleagues to force Gemini Rail back to negotiations so they can table an improved offer which would represent a significant financial increase to your pay and genuine enhancements to your terms and conditions.

In line with this instruction, on Monday 4th November 2019 the independent scrutineer will send a ballot paper to your home address and the ballot will close on Tuesday 19th November 2019. I urge you to complete and return your ballot paper in the freepost envelope provided as soon as you receive it. You will be asked to vote for both strike action and industrial action short of a strike – I urge you to vote ‘YES’ to both.
