Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2019 – Arriva Rail North

Following receipt of a revised pay offer from Arriva Rail North, the RMT will be conducting a referendum to ascertain whether or not members wish to accept the offer. The union’s National Executive Committee are recommending that you and your colleagues vote to REJECT the revised offer.

The revised offer is considerably less than the inflation busting multi-year pay award which was offered to Train Drivers in 2019. As an all Grades union that fights for each and every member this situation is completely unacceptable. Once again ASLEF has been bypassing the collective bargaining processes and consenting to a sweetheart deal with management to the detriment of every other employee. If we were to accept this revised offer, then we would also be accepting the principle that other trades union can continue to negotiate separately and on their own terms.

Your union believes that all the hard work that you have done for ARN should be properly rewarded and that the remuneration should be equally distributed across all Grades. ARN and ASLEF believe that only shareholders and Train Drivers should be able to cash in on Arriva’s bumper profits. That is why the union’s National Executive Committee are strongly recommending that you vote ‘NO’ in the forthcoming referendum.

Voting papers and the full details of the revised pay offer have been despatched to your home address today. Unite and TSSA are likewise consulting with their members over this matter, as part of a collective response to this issue. The referendum will close on Thursday 31st October 2019.
