RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2019 – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH

Further to my letter dated 10th October 2019, members should now have received their voting paper. Please make sure you return it, to reach the RMT by the closing date of Thursday 31st October 2019.

In previous correspondence I indicated that ASLE&F and Arriva Rail North had reached agreement in principle on a 4% pay rise for the next three years – I am now aware that the offer was rejected by their membership but discussions are on-going with ASLE&F representatives. Of course I have no doubt you will agree this does not fundamentally alter the fact that it is totally unacceptable that another union and management see nothing wrong in holding talks outside of the agreed machinery. After all there is only one ‘pot of money’ and if the majority goes to one group there is less to go round to the remainder of staff. Every member contributes to the company’s profits and should share equally the rewards for doing so.

The bottom line remains exactly the same this latest offer is unacceptable and the National Executive Committee are recommending that you vote to REJECT the company’s revised offer. You are being asked to vote NO because the latest offer fails to adequately address the criterion of our pay submission document, insofar as;

• Removes the enhancements to paternity and maternity rights that were previously tabled to your union as part of the original 2019 offer.

• Removes the guaranteed minimum lump sum payment of £475 which would have benefited members on lower rates of pay.

• Additionally, the National Executive Committee cannot accept management and ASLEF negotiating separately, outside of the agreed and established Collective Bargaining Agreement.

VOTE ‘NO’ TO REJECT THE OFFER
