Dear Colleagues

Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2019 - Mitie Merseyrail Contract Soft Services

Following this union’s acceptance of the 2019 pay award on 9th April 2020, I can report that on 14th April 2020 the RMT received an email from management advising that Mitie was withdrawing the offer in its entirety and would not be implementing the agreed increase, along with the backdated monies, to RMT members.

The impact of this is that Mitie has deprived you and your colleagues of in the region of £500 in back pay and also is only paying the National Minimum Wage going forward for over 25's of £8.72 per hour rather than the collectively agreed rate of £9.00 per hour. This means going forward you and your colleagues face the prospect of being over £1000 worse off per annum. Management are using this health crisis as an opportunity attack low paid workers and that is a disgrace.

The matter has been considered by your union’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and it decided that we are now in dispute with Mitie. I have been instructed to hold a ballot for industrial action of you and your colleagues to force Mitie to implement the agreed pay award.  We are in the process of preparing the ballot which requires us to make sure all the workplaces and job titles of our members are as accurate as possible. I would be grateful if you could ensure your records are up to date as soon as possible so that we can get the ballot up and running. This can be done either via our website www.rmt.org.uk or you can email any changes to info@rmt.org.uk

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments on this issue when they arise.

Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
