CLARIFICATION

RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2019
STAGECOACH SOUTH WEST (BARNSTAPLE, EXETER AND TORBAY)

Further to my letter yesterday, I have been advised that there is some confusion over what has been tabled by the company in these pay discussions. I can confirm, the below is what has been received from the company in writing: -

• A revised offer of 2.1% which is equivalent to the current rate of CPI inflation which would take the Driver rate to £10.72 per hour. (A 22p per hour increase)

Additionally the company also make comments in relation to the distribution of the pay award stating the following: -

“I would be happy to apply the same principle as adopted previously with staff members on pay rates lower than driver receiving the applicable pence per hour increase, based upon driver rate, and staff on driver rate or higher receiving the applicable percentage figure. “

They also go on to state they were concerned that: -

"... if this principle of a pence increase for the lower paid grades and percentage increase for grades paid driver rate or above continues to be adopted with every increase, the differential between the higher paid grades and the lower paid grades would continue to widen. A flat increase for all grades, valued in pence rather than a percentage would go some way to addressing that."

As it stands the offer has been rejected. Across the companies we represent, the union has agreed many pay deals which have seen flat rate increases for the lowest paid and guarantees significant increases in pay by bringing up the bottom level. However a flat rate increases for higher paid grades based on the pay of lower grades, means they get proportionately lower pay increases.

I hope the above clarifies the situation. As previously advertised, there will be a mass members meeting in Exeter on Sunday 9th June 2019 (details below) where all members are invited to discuss the latest offer with your negotiating team and the National Executive Committee member. I urge as many members as possible to attend this meeting so we can get as wide a view as possible from the membership on the company’s proposals.
