TO ALL STAGECOACH SOUTH WEST MEMBERS AT BARNSTAPLE, EXETER AND TORBAY
RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2019
STAGECOACH SOUTH WEST (BARNSTAPLE, EXETER AND TORBAY)
Your negotiating team led by lead officer Barry West attended a meeting with the Company at the end of last week to discuss this years’ pay claim. The lead officer reports that despite our best efforts to move the proposed increase from 1.9%, and the deliberations around their ability to pay a significant increase in rates of pay, the Company’s final position was to offer 2.1%.
A 2.1% rise for drivers would mean a rise of 22p per hour or a weekly increase of 9.04 per week before deductions. This is a derisory offer and will do nothing to appease our members’ aspirations of an RPI plus rise or a weeks additional holiday which was also rejected by the Company.
Stagecoach claim that the published accounts do not match the Management accounts and that they are disadvantaged by fuel rises or cuts in fuel costs. The other claim the Company has made is that because of increased costs due to Holiday pay and pension costs this added an additional burden of 3% to the Company, however this also means an increased cost to our members in pension contributions that will of course have a negative impact on pay. At the previous pay negotiation the Company proposed that Engineers and Controllers had 1p per hour rise and in effect the company felt that it was unfair to allow the widening gap to get wider, the members of the pay committee rejected this and felt was unfair to single out these members as we are here to fight and protect all grades we represent. Once again there was lack of transparency from the Company and a real lack of ability or willingness to make an offer that met our members aspirations or recognised their professionalism hard work, commitment and loyalty that they show in the day to day running of the business
A special meeting has been called on the Sunday 9th June 2019 in Exeter (details below) with all Stagecoach members invited to to discuss this latest offer. Members of the union’s National Executive Committee and Assistant General Secretary Mick Lynch will be in attendance to seek members’ views.
