RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2020 – MERSEYRAIL (GENERAL GRADES)
I am writing to advise you that I have received communication from Merseyrail advising me that they are postponing the 2020 pay negotiations. The company advises that at this moment in time their financial position remains ‘extremely uncertain’ and that passenger numbers remain exceptionally variable with an average of 45% of pre-pandemic numbers traveling. Unlike other train operators, Merseyrail has had to absorb the full impact of the passenger decline.
I have written to the company asking them to give me some idea as to how long they would expect the postponement of pay talks to be and whether or not they are considering changing the 2020 anniversary date. Management has responded advising that they will be able to provide the RMT with an update as to when pay negotiations will commence towards the end of the financial year and there has been no consideration in regard to altering the recognised pay anniversary date. Currently the union is liaising with your Representatives at Merseyrail to discuss the way forward with this issue.
I will keep you informed of developments.
