Dear Colleagues

RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2020/2021 – SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

I am in receipt of a report from your Regional Organiser who has attended pay negotiations with South Western Railway. Following the submission of our 2020 pay claim, the company advised the union’s negotiating team that they must abide by the requirements of the Chancellors Spending Review, as announced in November 2020. SWR has therefore confirmed that there is no funding available for any increases to rates of pay in 2020. For 2021, the company will only consider progressing pay awards if “there is a clear and compelling business case” and any such pay award would have to be self-funded by SWR employees. However, any employee with a basic salary beneath £24,000 will receive a £250 consolidated payment. The company will write to the RMT in due course with details of how the consolidated payment will be administered.

Having considered the report from the Regional Organiser, the union’s National Executive Committee has instructed me to write to all Branches and Regional Councils with South Western Railway members to ascertain what action they would like the RMT to undertake in respect of 2020 and 2021 pay. I would therefore be grateful if you could attend you next Branch or Regional Council meeting to ensure that your voice is heard in this matter. If you cannot attend a Branch or Regional Councils meeting please contact your Branch Secretary by Monday 31st May 2021 in order feedback your opinion in respect of this very important issue. Your Branch’s contact details can be found on the RMT website, via the following link: https://www.rmt.org.uk/about/branch-directory/wessex-branch-directory/?preview=true

I will keep you informed of further developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
