RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2021 – ATALIAN SERVEST

STRIKE ACTION TO PROCEED THIS WEEKEND
RMT TO RE-BALLOT
MEMBERS DUE TO ANTI-TRADE UNION LAWS
BALLOT PAPERS ARRIVING NEXT WEEK

Our Ref: BR1/0001/AS(AAWC)
30th May 2022

Dear Colleagues
RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2021 – ATALIAN SERVEST (ALSTOM/AVANTI WEST COAST CONTRACT)

Further to our previous correspondence, despite your union’s best efforts to try to resolve this matter, Atalian Servest has continued to fail to negotiate a pay offer which is adequate. At the conclusion of the latest talks, the company advised your union that intend to impose their latest derisory pay offer. Therefore, the strike action this weekend which I previously notified you about remains on. For ease of reference members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:

  • 00:01 hours on Saturday 4th June 2022 and 23:59 on Sunday 5th June 2022

Additionally, there have been very cynical additions made in the 2016 Trade Union Act which put even greater restrictions on workers taking industrial action. These restrictions are some of the most draconian in Europe.

One of the consequences of the new laws is that all ballots held after March 2017 are only valid for a six-month period from the date they close. It does not matter whether the dispute is ongoing or industrial action is being taken. It takes no notice of the fact that you are continuing this principled fight.

Therefore, we have no choice but to conduct another ballot and get a fresh mandate from members and your union is asking you to return a magnificent ‘YES’ vote as you did in the previous ballot.

On Monday 6th June 2022 the Independent Scrutineer Civica Elections Services (CES) will send a ballot paper to your home address.

It is our firm belief that the company, being aware that we need to re-ballot you and your colleagues, are stalling in the hope that we either lose the ballot or do not meet the ridiculously high thresholds required to continue our action.

Please do not let this happen. Not only are we asking you to vote ‘YES’ we are asking you to make sure you use your vote and not let Atalian Servest off the hook.

I urge you to keep up the magnificent support for your union by participating in the strike action and voting strongly in favour of action in the forthcoming ballot.

SUPPORT THE ACTION
VOTE ‘YES’ FOR STRIKE ACTION &
‘YES’ FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
