Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2021 – Foreland Shipping

Further to my letter dated 18th December 2020, further pay talks have been convened and the following revised offer has been received:-

Option One

· A 1-year pay deal based on AWE (KAC3) escalator confirmed (September 2020 figure) of 1.4%.

Option Two

· A 4 year pay deal for the period 2021 to 2024 inclusive which would be based on AWE (KAC3) escalator confirmed (September figure) released in December each year with a guaranteed minimum annual floor of 1.0%.

To start this new 4-year pay deal the pay award effective from 1st January 2021 only would be the AWE (KAC3) escalator confirmed (September 2020 figure) of 1.4% +0.3% ‘enhancement’ which gives a confirmed figure of 1.7% which is significantly higher than the current RPI figure of 0.9%.

With acceptance of Option Two, the following changes to terms and conditions would apply:-

a) An increase in sickness provision in-line with MLC of 112 days/16 weeks maximum for both sickness during a leave period and as a result of an accident/illness on board (as per MLC).
b) A long tour bonus at a rate of £25 a day for every day over a tour of duty of 104 days duration (conditions to apply). As a gesture of goodwill and to recognise the continued efforts by all sea-staff during the on-going pandemic, the company has agreed that this long-tour bonus will be back-dated to 1st April 2020.

The union’s National Executive Committee finds the revised offer to be derisory and offers little improvement on the previously rejected offer. In line with the wishes of the National Executive Committee, I have written to the company advising them of this union’s rejection of the revised offer. Additionally, I have advised Foreland Shipping that should they fail to table an improved offer, then a dispute situation will exist between our respective organisations.
