RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2021 – STENA LINE SEAFARERS

Our Ref: SH/0001/SL(S)
9th July 2021

Dear Colleagues

RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2021 – STENA LINE (SEAFARERS)

Referring to our previous correspondence, further negotiations have taken place and the following revised offer has been tabled:-

2.1% backdated to 1st January 2020
1.5% uplift backdated to 1st January 2021
2.0% uplift effective from 1st January 2022
2.0% uplift effective from 1st January 2023

It would be a matter of agreement that in the event that the RPI rate in October 2022 and/or October 2023 were to exceed 3.0% or fall below 0.5%, pay talks would be reopened for that year. Otherwise, pay talks would recommence from 1st January 2024.

In negotiation the company made it clear that they are operating in exceptional circumstances, not least in terms of the availability of a skilled hospitality workforce at this time. In order to address this challenge, the Stena Line are proposing to remove the Grade III from the salary structure and enhance the hourly rates of pay for Grade II’s with effect from 1st July 2021 as follows:

Grade
Proposed New Annual Salary
Grade II
£21,840.00
Grade II Chef
£23,850.00

The above rates are inclusive of the 2020 and 2021 pay offers.

In addition, it is proposed that:

Grade III will be removed from the OSS structure
Grade II will become the new entry rates for core and temporary employees
Voluntary Recall Rates for all Ratings will be increased to x 1.5 for July and August 2021 only, in order to assist with the Summer Season of 2021.

Furthermore, it has been acknowledged by both management and your union that the terminology in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) was in some regards outdated. The company and the RMT will commit to ensuring that the document becomes user-friendly, meaningful and up to date; however, this is not an opportunity to renegotiate conditions of service. The company has agreed to include the medical severance package negotiated in 2019 into the CBA and RMT has requested that that pension and life assurance policies are also incorporated into the CBA.

After long and careful consideration, your union’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had instructed me to hold a referendum so you and your colleagues so that you can have your say on the pay offer. Having considered the views of your negotiating team the NEC is recommending that you vote ‘YES’ to accept the revised offer.

The on-line referendum will close on at 10:30 hours on Thursday 15th July 2021.
