Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2023 – Freightliner Heavy Haul
In line with union policy, a claim was submitted to the company in September 2023 for the 1stOctober 2023 anniversary date and since then, protracted negotiations have taken place. The offer which has now been received is as follows:
A two year pay deal, consisting of the following:
Year One
Mobile Groundstaff Only
- An increase of 3.0% to basic pay and applicable allowances and backdated from 1stOctober 2023 to 30th September 2024. Application of this increase is linked to acceptance of the business performance items referred to at section 3 below.
All Other Grades (Static Groundstaff, Control, Clerical and Supervisory Grades)
- An increase of 1.5% to basic pay and applicable allowances, backdated and effective from 1st October 2023 to 30th April 2024
- A further increase of 1.5% to basic rates and applicable allowances backdated and effective from 1st May 2024 to 30th September 2024
Year Two
- All Grades - An increase of 3.0% to basic pay and applicable allowances, effective from 1st October 2024 to 30th September 2025
The offer and implementation are dependent on acceptance of the following elements:
- Mobile Groundstaff Only – Introduction of seven starred rest days per annum, effective from 1st July 2024. These are not in addition to the current minimum 104 rest days per annum and will be rostered at management discretion with the period of notice being 1700hrs on the day of roster release in the preceding week
- Briefings (Mobile Groundstaff only) - shifts will include time within diagrams to be allocated for staff briefing activities (excluding safety briefings), where there is the possibility to do so. Briefing activities will take place at a suitable location, and via use of all appropriate devices (to include paper, iPad, laptops, etc)
- Boulby TUPE – affected employees will be transferred to Heavy Haul Terms and Conditions, and with associated back pay, effective from 1st October 2023 to 30thSeptember 2024
Consequently, the union’s National Executive Committee has instructed me to hold an e-referendum of you and your colleagues so that you can have your say. Additionally, the National Executive Committee is recommending that you vote ‘NO’ to reject this offer.

The on-line referendum will close at 10:00 hours on Thursday 13th June 2024.
