Dear RMT Member
RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2023 – CARLISLE SUPPORT SERVICES (NORTHERN TRAINS REVENUE AND GATELINE CONTRACT)
I have received a number of reports suggesting that Carlisle management have been making intimidating telephone calls to staff demanding that they confirm whether they are RMT members or not.
Such bullying and threatening behavior by Carlisle bosses is very typical of their aggressive style, but it actually shows them up to be on the run. They are weak against a workforce which has demonstrated its strength through the ballot box. The magnificent vote for strike action which you and your colleagues delivered this week actually has the bosses frightened as they had believed their continued intimidation would always win – well, this time it hasn’t!
You are under no obligation to answer questions regarding your union membership. Ignore these pathetic tactics. And ignore comments suggesting that any strike action which is being considered would be illegal. If the company believed the action to be illegal, then they would have slapped a court injunction on your union and solicitors letters would have landed on my desk. That they haven’t shows their threats to be empty and, quite frankly, embarrassing.
Don’t swallow management’s pack of lies. Stand strong together and await to hear from me next week on the course of action we shall be asking members to take.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
