Dear RMT Member
RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2023 – HITACHI RAIL (LNER & NORTH POLE)
After five days of solid strike action by members at LNER depots and an overwhelming vote by members at London North Pole to take industrial action, talks were held this morning to seek a resolution to this dispute.
I am afraid to say that, despite the best efforts of your union negotiators who impressed upon management the need for them to table a substantial improvement on their previous offers, the company failed to do so. Nothing materialised by way of substance that would indicate an improvement to what was previously tabled and subsequently rejected by you and your colleagues.
The offer tabled was as follows:
London Bounds Green and Craigentinny Depot – Legacy contracts.
Year 1, a 6% increase to basic salaries and respective increments. Please note that the lumpsum payment of £1250:00 has now been removed!
- The removal of 100 reserve hours in 2024 and a further 100 hours in 2025.
Year 2, a 5:2% increase to basic salaries and respective increments utilising the December Retal Price Index Figure.
Year 3, An RPI increase to basic salaries and respective increments utilising the December figure, or a minimum of 2 % or a maximum of 6%.
Doncaster and London North Pole Depots;
Year 1, a 6% increase to basic salaries and respective increments and a one off none consolidated payment of £1250:00.
Year 2, a 5:2% increase to basic salaries and respective increments utilising the December Retal Price Index Figure.
Year 3, An RPI increase to basic salaries and respective increments utilising the December figure, or a minimum of 2 % or a maximum of 6%.
RMT representatives and members have made clear their rejection of this offer during discussions held with the Regional Organiser following the meeting with management today.
Your union’s National Executive Committee has therefore endorsed the recommendation that the offer be rejected and that all previously announced industrial action remains on.
Your NEC is also aware of the fact that members at North Pole depot have not had the chance to give their views on this offer yet.
Therefore, members at both LNER and London North Pole are invited to join an online meeting tomorrow afternoon (Friday 9th February) at 14.00 to air their views and receive an update from RMT officials on the progress or lack of progress on the talks and to discuss our future strategy.
