Dear RMT Member

RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2023 – HITACHI RAIL (LNER)

I congratulate you on the brilliant strike action you have taken in pursuit of a fair and deserved improvement in pay and conditions, which is now 11 months overdue.

The strong picket lines at all depots were a truly inspirational demonstration of your unity and determination and were a source of pride throughout the RMT Union.

For the avoidance of any doubt, the most recent company offer has been rejected by your Union and the company has been written to make this clear.

Your representatives met with the company last Saturday morning to make a counteroffer of 8% for year 1 and 6.2% for year 2. The company has rejected this in a communication issued to you yesterday.

The company had indicated they wanted to continue discussions and therefore we expected to meet again in the following days.

Unfortunately, we have heard nothing from your employer until their communication to you yesterday.

They clearly expect you to roll over. They have underestimated your determination and resolve. They have wasted months and now days of strike action spending their time watering down safety regimes instead of preparing an improved offer.

While we are always available to talk, we are equally prepared to fight for our members. We are not going away.

The company now needs to table an offer that meets the aspirations of our members, or we will continue to strike.

I trust this keeps you updated for now and I will advise you of any developments. In the meantime, stand strong and stick together. The entire RMT Union stands with you.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
