RMT CALLS FURTHER STRIKE ACTION
ON TUESDAY 25TH JUNE 2024
Our Ref: SH/0001/RFA
11th June 2024
Dear Colleagues
Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2023 – Royal Fleet Auxiliary
Referring to previous correspondence, I can report that the strike action on 19th May 2024 in this critical dispute was rock solid and RMT members in ports and ships (including in Singapore) either downed tools or stood on picket lines. I am immensely proud of our RFA members and the commitment and solidarity being shown.
The union’s negotiating team has now identified Tuesday 25th June as the next day of action as it would get some traction and exposure within the wider national and international maritime community. Tuesday 25th June 2024 is International Seafarers Day and is the date which celebrates the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society.
Therefore, the National Executive Committee has endorsed this recommendation and is instructing all members to take the following strike action:
- If your ship is in port DO NOT TURN TO for any duty that commences between 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Tuesday 25th June 2024.
NB: During the above period of strike action members must ensure that the safety of the ship is maintained, including Moorings and Gangways, at all times. |
I urge all members who can, to take part in this action and stand firm together. You and your colleagues deserve better and now we must take a stand to demand better.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
