Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2023 – Royal Fleet Auxiliary

Our Ref: SH/0001/RFA

31st July 2024

Dear Colleagues

Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2023 – Royal Fleet Auxiliary

I met briefly this morning with Alistair Carns MP, the MoD Minister for Veterans and People, who has responsibility now for the RFA pay dispute.  He was accompanied by MoD civil servants.

At the meeting, as previously, I outlined our straightforward demand that the MoD/RFA make proposals for the 2023 pay round when the employer imposed a pay increase.  The employer has declined to do this and stated that they were preparing proposals for pay for the 2024 pay cycle. However, they had no proposals to provide, even in indication, and stated that nothing would be ready before mid-September.

I of course firmly stated that this was entirely unacceptable to our RFA membership and their union and that their failure to recognise the issue of the inadequate pay position over many years is treating the staff with contempt.

There were some warm words about the respect the Minister has for the RFA and how keen they are to build a relationship and address issues going forward.  Of course, none of that will pay your bills now.

Given that we have no proposals for 2023 or 2024 we have no alternative but to press on with our planned strike action on 1st August 2024. I will advise you of any further developments.

I urge you all to take the action, to stand by your union and each other.

We are of course available to discuss the issues at any time and I have invited the MoD to get a move on in resolving the pay issue.

Stand Strong Together for Pay Justice!

Yours sincerely
