Our Ref: SH/0001/OF

13th August 2024

Dear Colleagues

Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2024 – Orkney Ferries

Referring to previous correspondence, the e-referendum has now concluded and the result is as follows:

Question: Are you prepared to accept the company’s offer?

Votes Cast     22

Voting ‘Yes’    19

Voting ‘No’     3

Noting the result, the National Executive Committee has instructed me to inform the company of our acceptance of the offer. This instruction has been carried out and I have requested that the increase and any back monies are paid at the earliest opportunity. For ease of reference, the accepted pay offer is as follows:

  • A flat rate increase for all sea-going staff of 4.5%
  • The current daily payment for attending training courses to be increases to two for one.
  • Support paid relief only should an employee be elected to a committee
  • A commitment to revisit triple time for sickness and refit cover by the end of October 2024, the new 4 week leave rota’s will have been in place for 6 months at this point. The following issues will be looked at when recall is revisited:

  • Fatigue Management: most importantly the company need to ensure that staff are getting the required time off, therefore, the company will look at the number of staff they have taken on from 1st April 2024 and whether this is allowing staff to take time off
  • The recall budget is set at £400K for financial year 24/25. After the 6 month period the company will look at actual costs and forecast for the remaining 6 months based on actuals and estimated recall cover for the remainder for the financial year to determine if the company is over/under budget and whether they are in a position to offer triple time for sickness and refit.

Yours sincerely
