Dear RMT Member,

RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2024 – BABCOCK RAIL

The referendum of you and your colleagues over the company’s pay offer has concluded and the result is as follows:

Do you accept the company’s offer?

Total votes cast                      184

Number voting YES                 165

Number voting NO                  19

For reference, the accepted offer is:

  • The basic rates of pay for employees covered by Procedure Agreement 1 (General Collective Bargaining) will be increased by 5%, effective from Monday 8th April 2024
  • This is a 15 month pay deal and the next planned pay negotiation would be to review rates of pay to apply from 1st July 2025
  • This pay increase will be applied to collectively bargained colleagues’ redundancy payments for the ongoing restructure within the Alliance
  • Benefits that are based on the financial year, such as annual leave will continue to run April – March each year, only the effective pay date is being moved

The Company has also proposed changes to its Family Friendly Policies as follows:

  • Increased paternity leave entitlement from 2 weeks to 6 weeks
  • Increased adoption leave entitlement, in line with the paternity leave benefit, from 2 weeks to 6 weeks
  • Implement the sick leave rolling benefits from day 1 for all colleagues (26 weeks full pay, 26 weeks half pay)
  • Automatically carry over up to 5 days of unused annual leave with no approvals required. Banking and Public holidays will continue to be managed separately
  • Increase the immediate bereavement policy from 1 week to 2 weeks
  • Introduce 4 new benefits:
  • Extended bereavement leave – up to 3 days
  • IVF leave – 1 week per cycle
  • Carers leave – 1 week
  • Foster carers leave – 1 week

Your union’s National Executive Committee has considered the matter and instructed me to advise the company of our acceptance and request that the increase is implemented at the earliest opportunity, inclusive of back pay. I trust that this keeps you advised.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
