Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2024 – Freightliner Ltd
Referring to previous correspondence, pay talks have been re-convened and the following revised offer has been tabled:
Year One
- 3.0% increase on basic salary, backdated to 1st January 2024.
- Any “dynamic” allowances will increase in line with the above with the exception of the Night Out Allowance claimable by RMD/ LGV Road drivers, which will not increase.
- Scale Allowances continue to be eligible for increase in line with the above.
In addition to the above the following items also apply:
MSO Training Allowance
- Agreement to introduction of a Training Allowance of £2,500.00 per annum for those grades that carry out MSO Training. This will include MSO’s and Operations and Rail Supervisor grades who possess the ability to confirm authorisation of MSOs to operate.
- Entitlement to the allowance will be approved and administered following an open appointment process and job description as supplied.
- The allowance will be non-pensionable and payable subject to PAYE deductions on a continuing four-weekly basis subject to retention of competence to undertake the training.
- The allowance will be considered for annual general increases.
Terminal Attendant Grade
- Agreement to the re-introduction of a revised Terminal Attendant role within Inland Terminals.
- Activities to be linked to new revenue generating services, to include M&R, Reefer, Cargo handling, Debagging and Recycling, and confirmed in related role profile.
- Effective 1st January 2024, the salary for the role will be £20,821.00, equal to the “Labourer” grade within the current Salaried grade structure (and based on Inland Terminal MSO associated terms and conditions).

Year Two
- 4.0% increase in basic salary and allowances.
- Any “dynamic” allowances will increase in line with the above with the exception of the Night Out Allowance claimable by RMD/ LGV Road drivers, which will not increase.
- Scale Allowances continue to be eligible for increase in line with the above.
As part of the dispute resolution agreement, the proposed increase of 4.0% for Year Two includes:
(i) Acceptance of the proposed changes linked to train departure and arrival process within the Inland Terminals. The changes to be implemented as soon as possible (and no later than 6thDecember 2024) following RMT confirming acceptance of this revised offer. (ii) For LGV Drivers, the establishment of a joint working group, terms of reference to be confirmed and agreed at Business Council. Discussions to include flexible responses to changing market conditions, driver productivity/ improved vehicle utilisation, and any changes to terms and conditions.
The proposed increases to basic pay are fully pensionable but will be subject to the Pensionable Pay Cap arrangements and/ or Pension Restructuring principles currently in place.
Consequently, the union’s National Executive Committee has instructed me to hold an e-referendum of you and your colleagues so that you can have your say. Additionally, the National Executive Committee is strongly recommending that you vote ‘YES’ to accept these proposals. It is the belief of your National Executive Committee these proposals represent the best achievable through negotiation. The referendum will close at 11am on Thursday 3rdOctober 2024.
