Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2024 – Isle of Man Steam Packet Company

Our Ref: SH/0001/IOMSPC

13th March 2024

Dear Colleagues

Rates of Pay and Conditions of Service 2024 – Isle of Man Steam Packet Company

Referring to previous correspondence, you will be aware that arising from the dispute with Nautilus UK, Officer Grades at the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company have forfeited their annual pay award. Nautilus UK accepted two extra blocks of annual leave on behalf of their members.

The company has advised that the pay award which was agreed with the RMT has not been implemented yet and as such it is prepared to offer this alternative option for Ratings. Therefore, RMT members can choose to forfeit the 5% uplift and receive the two extra blocks of annual leave.

Having carefully considered this matter and discussed this matter with the Port Committee, your National Executive Committee has instructed me to hold an e-referendum of you and your colleagues so that you can have your say on whether to retain the 5% uplift or receive the two extra blocks of annual leave.

The on-line referendum will close at 11am on Thursday 28th March 2024.

Consequently, in the referendum you will be asked to vote for one of the following options:

Option One

  • One year deal of 5% increase to salary effective from 1st January 2024.
  • Additional six (6) days annual leave.
  • Increase to dock allowance from £17.50 to £20.00

Option Two

  • 0% uplift in pay and two extra blocks of annual leave
  • Seafarers will only be able to take one block of leave in the summer ‘excluding TT period’ with the remaining three blocks being taken between winter months.

The average AB receives £3432.60 per month before deductions if members agree to the 5% pay increase, they would receive an additional £2059.56 per year versus the additional block of leave with salary forfeit works out at £1716.30. Average Catering is on £2892.33 per month before deductions if they agree to the 5% pay increase, members would get an additional £1735.59 per year versus the additional block of leave with salary forfeit works out at £1446.16.

As you can see there is a slight financial advantage if members were to stick with the 5% pay offer. Additionally, the 5% uplift is fully pensionable, whereas, the 0% uplift would have no impact on your pension.
