Dear RMT Member
RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2024 – NETWORK RAIL
Your negotiating team has met with the company for the fourth time to obtain a pay and conditions award for you for 2024 despite the anniversary for you to receive your uplift being the 1st January 2024.
The company tabled an offer today with the headline pay increase proposed to be 3.5%.
As you will know, the benchmark measure of inflation we use for negotiations with Network Rail is the November RPI figure, which was 5.3%. A full summary of the proposals will follow.
Therefore, Network Rail is once again offering an increase in your wages that is a real-terms cut in your living standards as your pay is not keeping up with the rising costs of rent, mortgages, energy, food, and other essentials.
Since 2020, the total RPI inflation has been 33%. If this offer was accepted, total average pay increases for Network Rail staff would be approximately 13%.
This means that you would be in the region of 20% worse off now than you were in 2020.
On this basis, your negotiating team has formally rejected this offer and expressed in the strongest terms possible our dissatisfaction with the way the company continues to undervalue frontline workers.
We have advised the company that we urgently require fresh discussion and an improved offer.
We will inform you of any developments, but trust this keeps you advised for now.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
