Dear RMT Member

RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2024 – WILTS & DORSET (SHUNTERS & CLEANERS)

The referendum of you and your colleagues on the pay offer from the company has concluded and the result is as follows:

Do you accept the company’s offer?

Total votes cast                   18

Number voting YES             16

Number voting NO              2

Your union’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has noted the result and the fact that the majority has voted to accept. Accordingly, the NEC has instructed me to advise the company of your union’s acceptance and that we expect the payments to be implemented as soon as possible.

For clarity, the offer which has been accepted was as follows:

Cleaner Grades

  • The Day Cleaner rate will increase from the current £11.44 per hour (which it increased to in April 2024 as a result of the change to the National Living Wage) to £12.00 per hour.
  • The Night Cleaner rate will increase from the current £11.44 per hour to £13.00 per hour.

            Shunter Grades

  • Shunter/Cleaner shift rate non-PSV licence will increase from the current £12.66 to £13.50.
  • Shunter/Cleaner shift rate with PSV licence will increase from the current £12.78 to £14.00.

            Two-Year RPI-linked deal

Years 2 and 3 of this multi-year offer will be the same arrangement as the drivers for these two years. The percentage increase will be applied to the PCV licence holder rate with a minimum guaranteed increase in both years of 2.2%. In both years, the same RPI-linked increase will apply: If the May ONS published rate of RPI is 3.3% or greater, the actual increase applied will increase by 0.1%. For example, if the RPI rate is 3.4%, the actual increase applied will be 2.4%. If RPI is 6.3%, the actual increase applied will be 5.3%. If RPI is only 2.7%, the 2.2% minimum increase will be applied.

In years 2 and 3 of this revised three-year deal, the Shunter/Cleaner shift rate for a non PCV licence holder will pay £1.00 less than the equivalent rate for a licence holder and to which the RPI-linked increase as set out above will be applied. Similarly, the Day Cleaner rate will be paid at a rate which is £1.50 per hour less than the equivalent rate for a Shunter/Cleaner shift rate with PCV licence once the RPI-linked increase has been applied to that rate.

I would like to thank you for participating in this process.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
