RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE – ROYAL FLEET AUXILIARY
Further to previous correspondence on the above matter, I can confirm that today I have been advised by the Commodore that the Cabinet Office has approved the Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s business case. As you are will be aware the Commodore submitted a business case to the Cabinet Office in September 2019 which sought to find solutions to the pay issues at the organisation. Although the RMT did not know the exact contents of the business case, the union’s negotiating team had been assured that the business case highlighted the prolonged pay freeze which our members have been enduring and the disparity between Royal Navy pay and Royal Fleet Auxiliary pay. Meetings had been taking place between the RFA and the Cabinet Office to discuss the business case, however, owing to the General Election the matter had been placed on hold.
The RFA has advised me that now the business case has been endorsed by the Cabinet Office they are in a position to table a pay offer. The Commodore has advised me that the RMT will receive formal notification of this pay offer tomorrow (31st January 2020). Although, I am not in a position to speculate whether or not this pay offer will address all of our concerns, this is a step forward in what has been a long and protracted pay dispute. I will be convening a meeting with our Royal Fleet Auxiliary Representatives on 7th February 2020 to discuss the new offer and the way forward with this issue.
I will keep you advised of all developments following the conclusion of this meeting.
