REDUNDANCIES – COLAS RAIL
I write in relation to proposed changes within the Rail Infrastructure division of Colas Rail. As you may have heard Colas Rail intend to reduce the head count in its Planning, Financial, Commercial, Safety, CEM and Team Organiser roles. The plans would mean that 34 roles are at risk of redundancy with just 20 jobs identified within the company for those who are at risk to apply for.
It should be noted that a redundancy situation now exists despite redundancies not being raised during the recent TUPE transfer process of staff from Babcock to Colas Rail which saw the merging of administration operations. Your Lead Officer has been involved in the consultations and will be attending further meetings with the company about these proposals this week after which a clearer picture will emerge about what the proposals will mean for members involved.
I have written to Network Rail to raise concerns about the proposed redundancies at their contracted service provider, particularly as Colas Rail have cited significant pressure from their client as a justification for the job cuts. I will keep you advised of any further developments.
