REDUNDANCIES – GREEN COMMERCIAL CLEANING HULL TRAINS CONTRACT

Our Ref: BR1/16/3

20th August 2020

Dear Colleague,

REDUNDANCIES – GREEN COMMERCIAL CLEANING (HULL TRAINS CONTRACT)

Firstly, I hope you and your family are keeping safe and well during this difficult and unprecedented time. On behalf of the union I would like to thank you all for your hard work and dedication during one of the toughest years the industry has faced.

I am writing after receiving concerning reports that Green Commercial Cleaning are making redundancies on the Hull Trains cleaning contract. It is extremely worrying that during a global pandemic as serious as COVID-19 an essential cleaning service is being cut. I understand that the company are attempting to conduct one-to-one consultations. I would urge you and your colleagues to immediately contact your regional office and to seek a representative to attend these meetings with you. You can contact your regional office on 01302 760694.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and is appalled at the company’s actions. Therefore, I have written to Hull Trains to ask for their immediate intervention on this issue. The practice of outsourcing such a vital service must end and I have demanded that hull trains bring all essential cleaning contracts in house. I have also written to Green Commercial Cleaning demanding that they immediately cease their redundancy plans. The union is totally opposed to any form of redundancy and this practice must be stopped immediately. The union will do everything in its power to protect our members and protect this vital cleaning service. I will be issuing a press release condemning the actions of Hull trains and Green Commercial Cleaning and highlighting their cavalier attitude towards public safety and cleaning at this unprecedented time.   The cleaning services provided by you and your colleagues are always essential, let alone during a global pandemic. To remove such a vital service would be detrimental to the railway, the public and the faith passengers have that their service is being cleaned and maintained to the highest level.

Profit should never come before safety and I am sure the travelling public would be mortified to find out their train services and stations are now being cleaned less than before this global pandemic.

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will write to you again once I have received further information.

Yours Sincerely,

RMT Union
