REDUNDANCIES – RAIL GOURMET (TPE CONTRACT)

Our Ref: HC/16/3

27th June 2018

Dear Colleague,

REDUNDANCIES – RAIL GOURMET (TPE CONTRACT)

As you are aware there were concerning reports that as a result of TransPennine Express’s decision to cease catering services on the Doncaster to Sheffield route that the Rail Gourmet headcount would need to be reduced. Additionally, following a resolution from our Manchester South Branch it was revealed that a number of redundancies would happen at the Rail Gourmet Manchester depot.

Following these reports our Lead Officer met with the company on several occasions to ensure that our members were fairly treated. The company has since confirmed that there will be no compulsory redundancies as volunteers have expressed interest in transferring depots. The company have also indicated that they will be holding a recruitment campaign at Newcastle, York and Liverpool and will be offering permanent contracts to the successful applicants.

The National Executive Committee has recently considered this matter and has acknowledged the reports received from the Lead Officer that there will be no compulsory redundancies within the company and that a recruitment process is taking place. Therefore, I ask that you remain vigilant on these issues and to raise any concerns you have with your representatives.

I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will inform you of any further developments on this issue when they arise.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
