Dear Mark

REDUNDANCIES DUE TO PROPOSED RELOCATION OF FINANCE SHARE SERVICES CENTRE (FSSC) – FREIGHTLINER

I have been advised by your Union Representatives that Freightliner is proposing to relocate the FSSC from Southampton Millbrook to Birmingham. I have received a copy of the company’s consultation documents, indicating a potential redundancy situation for a total of 84 members of staff, including agency workers. The RMT rejects these proposals in their entirety.

The RMT and our affected members are totally appalled by this recent announcement as at no point did management table their concerns with the RMT over the FSSC so alternatives could be explored through the machinery of negotiation. Instead, the RMT has been issued with a HR 1 advance Notification of Redundancies.

During discussions at a recent collective redundancy consultation meeting, your Representatives made clear the union’s position on no compulsory redundancies, seeking guarantees from management that the company will abide by the PTR&R and that there will be no compulsory redundancies. However, management were unable to provide any guarantees other than to state contractual entitlements would be honoured. Consultation meetings are ongoing between the RMT and Freightliner and the next meeting due to be held is on Wednesday 10th October 2018. Following conclusion of this meeting and I will provide a further update on the situation.

Additionally, I have informed the company that we are now in dispute over these issues and should no agreement be reached then a ballot for industrial action will take place. I am currently carrying out the necessary membership checks in preparation for a forthcoming ballot. To help ensure your membership records are up-to-date or to notify the union of any changes I would be grateful if you could contact the RMT Head office on 0207 387 4771 and ask for the Membership department. Alternatively, members can contact the RMT Freephone helpline on 0800 376 3706 or by emailing the helpline at info@rmt.org.uk and notifying them of any updates.

I will, of course, keep you fully advised on any further developments.

Best wishes.
