Removal of Union Office & Facility Time – Southern Vectis (Go South Coast)

Our Ref: B/20/3

19th September 2024

Dear RMT Member,

Removal of Union Office & Facility Time – Southern Vectis (Go South Coast)

Your RMT Lead Officer recently reported the Company’s proposal to remove and relocate the Trade Union Office at Newport Bus Station and I am advised that the current position from local management is to move the Reps office into what amounts to no more than a broom cupboard and a ‘hot office’ a mile away from the workplace.

The National Executive Committee is deeply concerned at these proposals, which are nothing short of an attack on this Union and a clear attempt to undermine the good work of our Reps. This proposal would of course also make it far more difficult for you to speak to your RMT Reps and access Union services and assistance.

In line with the NEC decision, I have written to the Company seeking immediate assurances that a suitable Trade Union Office will continue to be provided at Newport Bus Station and that no changes will be imposed without agreement with this Union. A failure to provide these assurances will lead to a dispute situation with RMT.

I will of course keep you advised of all further developments.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
