REORGANISATION AND REDUNDANCY – CHURCHILL SERVICES (NETWORK RAIL HS1 CONTRACT)
The union was made aware that Network Rail had informed Churchill Services that waste operatives were no longer required to undertake waste collection from retail outlets in St. Pancras for compacting, but, will continue to require compacting services. Churchill Services advised the union that the retailers would deliver the waste to the Midland Road compacting site where our affected members will process and compact as per current arrangements.
Due to these arrangements the company had initially identified 5 waste operatives in scope for redundancy. However, the union has been in discussion with Churchill Services and alternative arrangements were proposed by your union. These were accepted by the company which removes redundancies and provides roles for our affected members, with all terms and conditions protected.
This is a significant victory for our members who were at risk of being made redundant. The dedication and hard work of our representatives has ensured that none of our members are left behind. This is a clear example of what an organised and hard working union can achieve.
The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has welcomed the news that our members have not been made redundant. Additionally, I have been instructed to write to Network Rail to establish whether there is a new contract being tendered for the previous roles that may include our members work. Furthermore, the union would like to extend our thanks to Brother Yusuf Sharif and Brother Abdul Kamara for their handwork and efforts in ensuring our member’s jobs are protected.
I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter and I will, of course, update you on any further developments when they arise.
